Tomato Balconi Red

Red Cherry heritage tomato on compact determinate plants.

Acquired through the 2018 seed swap, this cultivar is common on the web. Its a short (12 inch) determinate cherry tomato, similar in description to Tiny Tim, Micro Tom, Red Robin and others.

We’ll grow this and a couple of others to do a straight comparison.

2019 Update

As you can see, we have some tomatoes ripening. The plant is bigger than Micro Tom (as are the fruits) but less scrambling than Red Robin (which hasn’t any ripe fruit at the end of July). In the end though, like most of the determinate plants in 2019, it didn’t crop very well and suffered badly from grey mould which I think was cause by the damp in the polytunnel because of the weather. Will I try them again? Possibly not, there are others that seem to do just as well if not better.
