Tomato Black Brandywine

An unusual Brandywine tomato (its regular leafed) black/brown on regular leafed indeterminate plants.

Description

Description

Black Brandywine is a beefsteak tomato with a deep, rich, addictive flavour. Once you appreciate that the best tasting tomatoes do not have to be round and red, the flavours of the heirloom tomatoes can be really appreciated. Black tomatoes (for example Black Brandywine, Black Krim, Cherokee Purple and Japanese Black Trifele) have rich flavours and are ideal in cooking, providing a depth of colour to sauces.

A mid-ripening, indeterminate, regular-leafed, medium sized (6 – 12 oz), tomato with purple/mahogany fruits. The plants are high yielding and may need additional support. Note that fruits which are exposed to sunlight can develop green shoulders but this doesn’t affect the taste. Excellent tomato good both raw and cooked.

After a number of years of searching we found a “True Black Brandywine” which is a potato leafed cultivar very similar but proposed to have a longer pedigree.
