Tomato Black Mauri (Black Moor)

A black cherry tomato on indeterminate vines.

Description

Another cultivar from the 2019 seed swap that we grew for the first time in 2021.

It sounded similar to brown berry or black cherry but the shape was very different and we ended up with something much more like Black Plum (although the colour was a bit darker). This was a bit of a disappointment because we find that plum tomatoes are really only any good for cooking. However, its another tomato in the collection. We did have a problem however. As usual we grew two plants and they were very different. One was a standard red, not particularly early, tasty or anything and the other was the black plum you see below. We’re always quite careful about keeping the various cultivars separate and labelling them when we’re growing so I assume that its a mix-up with our supplier or (just as likely) a cross with something else which has resulted in an “impure” strain. Happens all the time.
