Tomato Costoluto Fiorentino

Small heavily ridged red beefsteak heritage tomato on indeterminate plants.

Description

Costoluto Fiorentino is a Beefsteak tomato with bright red skin and juicy flesh. An early/mid ripening, indeterminate, regular leafed, medium sized beefsteak tomato. High yielding plants with over 50 tomatoes in a good year. However, good years are few and far between. We struggle to grow many of the Italian varieties effectively, I assume that our climate is not suitable and the Brandywine varieties seem to do better, possibly more suited to the cooler climate of middle England so we don’t grow this anymore. Its easily available so there’s no reason for us to keep refreshing our seeds.

The fruits are very meaty with few seeds, flattened and quite heavily ridged which can make them difficult to skin. An old fashioned flavoured tomato good for sauces.
