Tomato Giallo d’Iverno

A red Cherry open pollinated tomato on Indeterminate plants

Description

From the 2018 Seed Swap, we weren’t sure what this was going to be as we couldn’t find it described anywhere on the web (the nearest was Grappoli D’Inervo which is a grape shaped cultivar – it was in my database but without an associated description so I’ve found it mentioned if not described). My expectations therefore were for a grape-shaped cultivar. But it wasn’t.

What we go is a medium sized striped orange & red tomato very similar to Tiger, a smaller version of Tigerella or Red Zebra. I’ve saved seeds but when I tried it it was very acidic/bitter (I thought maybe I hadn’t let it ripen properly before trying it but, it didn’t improve a lot). Of all of the striped tomatoes of this size I think I prefer Darby Striped.

If I’ve space, I will try it again on the basis that 2019 was a bad year and if it needs more sun/heat to get properly ripe then 2019 was not the year for this cultivar.
