Tomato Mountain Princess

An early maturing red, medium sized heritage tomato on determinate plants.

Description

Early maturing determinate tomato of average size and taste. Sounds similar to many commercial varieties (e.g. Heinz 9219). The web suggests that its been grown for many generations in the West Virginian mountains. a cool climate so it ought to be suitable for our GB climate. Grown in 2017, this produced fairly large fruit (~150g each) early on. However, it was prone to splitting and we left the first fruit until they were too ripe and had lost some of their flavour.

When we picked later ripening fruit, we picked them before they were fully ripe (soft) and the flavour was much better, sharper and with more bite.
