Tomato Mrs Rucks

A small/medium sized red open pollinated tomato on determinate plants.

Description

This variety comes from the Heritage Seed Library and was donated by Mrs Catherine Ruck at Audley End in 2004. A Determinate which produces small round red fruit, its therefore in competition with a whole load of similar tomatoes. In 2017 when we grew this for the first time its taste was at least as good as Cyril’s Choice and it produced slightly more fruit.

Our difficulty is that (being a determinate plant) it doesn’t fit into our greenhouses well and growing outdoor tomatoes is a no-no for us because of blight. We grew it on the bench to keep the fruit off the ground and it tangled up with all the others. We might try it again if we can be more organised.

Having said that we’re not growing outdoor tomatoes, having “lost” the polytunnel, we’re growing Determinate varieties outdoors a little more willingly so this might get grown in future years.
