Tomato Principe Borghese

Red/Pink cherry heritage tomato on determinate plants.

Description

Principe Borghese is an Italian small paste tomato full of flavour and ideal for sauces and salads. An early/mid-ripening, determinate, regular leafed plant, the cherry tomatoes are about 1-2 oz. The plant is very prolific the fruit is ideal for salads, drying and cooking. The tomatoes can be a substitute for Roma, being good paste tomatoes when ripe. It is said that the plants can be picked whole when the tomatoes are still green and hung in a cool, frost free and airy place where they will ripen on the vine and keep until late in the year. I haven’t really found an alternative Determinate, slightly pink, pointed tomato.

It is said to be an Italian variety dating back to 1910 (if it is Italian, it is about the only one I succeed with !)

2020: Growing a few of these in pots this year as normal but they seem to have gone rampant, not something I remember from previous years. In early July, they are four foot high, flowering like mad and with lots of fruit set. Obviously a good year.
