Tomato Sub Arctic Plenty

Medium sized red Open Pollinated tomato on Semi-determinate plants.

Description

Sub Arctic Plenty is a very early ripening medium sized tomato. The compact indeterminate (or determinate), regular-leafed plant produces round, mid-sized tomato between 4 – 6oz. The plants tend to sprawl and although they are indeterminate, they tend not to climb up stakes and a number of fruiting stems should be supported and are probably best grown as Determinate or Semi-Determinate plants. Fruit are set at lower temperatures than most tomatoes making it ideal for cooler areas and early cropping in other areas. It is said that this variety was developed in the 1940s to allow American servicemen stationed in Greenland to grow their own vegetables! Not that cold where we are based.

Whilst it is claimed to be a very early plant, in 2012 this was one of the last tomatoes to have ripe fruit. That being said, they were very large.
