A large heart shaped red heritage tomato on indeterminate plants.
Description
Cuore di Bue (Italian for Oxheart but not to be confused with Cuor di Bue despite the similarity in name but similar to Cuore di Torro) is a pinkish red, sweet tasting, meaty, ox-heart beef tomato which is excellent for slicing and cooking because of its meaty flesh and lack of seeds. The distinctive shaped, 8 ounce fruit grow on regular leafed, indeterminate plants and mature late in the season. They are quite hard to pick from the vine (use secateurs) and are liable to split if overwatered whilst ripening.
You are unlikely to find these in the shops as they bruise easily and are not good for transporting long distances.
As a sauce variety, it has a high pulp content and therefore cooks to a thick sauce more quickly. Perfect for casseroles and pizza.
We grew these in both 2013 and 2014 very successfully and they compare well with all the other Pink Beefsteak varieties. It is one of the (very) few Italian varieties that we have success with.
