A green cherry heritage or open pollinated tomato on indeterminate plants.
Description
This is a large cherry tomato, light green with pinkish tinges. Now, there is (in my mind) some confusion. The packet says it was bred by Burpee but looking through Burpees website, there aren’t any Emerald Green Cherry tomatoes, the only green cherry tomatoes are Green Envy, Green Grape and Green Zebra. Similarly there’s no identically named tomato on any of the normal websites that I look at. Similar varieties are Emerald, Aunt Ruby’s Green Cherry and Evergreen. So I’m not quite sure what I’ve got.
However, like other Green Cherry tomatoes, there is a significant difficulty knowing when the fruit is ripe. They go from the dark green colour to one which is more yellowy but not as distinctly as Green Grapes which we have also grown in the past.
Green cherry tomatoes do add distinctive colour to a salad but are not really something I would grow out of choice (well I have but you know what I mean). In 2016 the plants became hidden behind others and I never picked any ripe fruit, they all fell off the plants and were eaten by slugs.
