Tomato Gazzi Yellow Egg

Medium Sized Yellow Plum Tomato.

Description

Grown for the first time in 2018 with seeds from a seed swap, we were interested to see how this grew. It did quite well with a reasonable crop, probably one of the first to ripen in this peculiar year.

A early/mid season yellow plum tomato very similar to Taiko but possibly with a slightly better flavour and didn’t seem to get Blossom End Rot as badly.

The only trace I can find for this on the web says “Dr Susan Arregger, an English botanist who has lived in Italy since 1963, bred this variety. It is an early variety and really needs a glasshouse to perform at its best. The small, yellow fruits have a distinctive egg shape (hence the name), delicious sweet flesh and acid juices.”

If it is an Italian variety then its one of the few that I have successfully grown without Blossom End Rot. Flavour is as good as they suggest and the shape isn’t really egg shaped (but then there are lots of different ways of describing a shape).
