Medium/large red heritage tomato on indeterminate plants.
Description
Saint Pierre is an indeterminate, red round tomato with slight ridges which we grew for the first time in 2016, having got the seeds from a seed swap. the fruit were reasonably large (about 2 – 2.5 inches) and had thick walls which made the good for sauces and cooking rather than as salad tomatoes.
The fruit came on trusses of about four fruit and there weren’t many trusses on a plant. However, because we failed to remove the sideshoots as the plant was growing (we were away) we had a reasonable crop.
The web suggests that these have been a popular French tomato grown since the 1880s.
As with many of the standard sized red tomatoes, its difficult to decide which are the best to grow.
