Large oxheart orange open pollinated tomato on indeterminate plants.
Description
Orange Strawberry is well described by its name. Its Orange and shaped like a strawberry. An oxheart shaped fairly large tomato, we grew this in 2014 and got a small number of relatively large (8 ounce) tomatoes with a lot of flesh and not many seeds.
Whether we had let them go overripe or what I don’t know but compared to some of the other orange tomatoes, we found they lacked flavour. (We really ought to try them again to check). What they lacked in flavour, they made up for in their cooking, where the density of their flesh made them cook well into a delicious paste (we’d mixed them with other stronger flavoured orange tomatoes).
Their history is slightly weird as they were “found as a stray seed in a pack of commercial pineapple seeds”. Now whether this means that in fact they are something else that has got mixed up during packaging or whether they are a development of Pineapple it is therefore impossible to know.
Will I grow it again? Probably only to compare it with other similar varieties.
