Red, Beefsteak, heritage tomato on indeterminate plants.
Description
Super Marmande is a large, red, juicy beefsteak tomato. The tomatoes grow on a vigorous, strong semi-determinate plant which needs training as it best grown as an indeterminate with lots of support and a number of vines. The fruit is heavily fluted which we have found makes it difficult to skin.
The meaty tomatoes have a sweet flavour and the beefsteak shape and style mean that it has comparatively few seeds making it ideal for sandwiches and sauces.
An RHS Award of Garden Merit winner which shows that they are good plants to grow. Our own experience, however, is (like many Italian varieties) it doesn’t do very well in the cooler UK climate (or at least in our greenhouses) and therefore the Brandywine varieties seem to give a bigger crop.
